These fuel pumps are designed for extended street duty to eliminate problems of noise, vapor lock, overheated fuel or pump reliability issues common with external performance pumps. There is no need to run an expensive pump controller or rewire your car. These kits offer original equipment durability, with the same reliability characteristics as your stock pump.
Under normal conditions, only 1 pump runs, so there is no additional load on the charging system, nor is there any fuel heating associated with these kits as commonly found with high flow single race pumps.
Now you can enjoy your car, driving it cross country if desired, just as if it had the stock pump. This second pump is either enabled based on boost, nitrous activation, or via an RPM switch sold separately for normally aspirated engines. Internal fuel lines are OE style corrugated nylon. Original GM oil pickup tubes are fastened to the pump with a single bolt mating flange on the tube. The bolt hole on the other side is not used. Out Pump and fitting kit makes it easy to convert your existing fuel tank to work with your new LS engine.The fuel system starts with the fuel tank and with either an electrical or mechanical engine driven fuel pump, fuel is delivered to a carburetor or fuel injection system which atomizes the fuel and delivers an air-fuel mixture to the engine to burn and develop power.
Performance enhancements are available for the fuel pum and tank. Fuel Tank: The stock Camaro fuel tank is too small for high horsepower engines when used for driving for long distances. Racing fuel cells are typically too small for street driving.
We show an installation for a Fuel Safe bladder lined, foam filled racing fuel cell for the third generation Camaro which supports the needs of both racer and street driver. The tank increases capacity to 24 gallons and improves crash safety. The tank is a custom design for the Camaro and installs in the stock fuel tank location. Nylon reinforced bladder linings offer puncture protection to the fuel tank.
The foam is designed to reduce the movement of the fuel. In the event of an explosion, the foam reduces flame propogation and the air volume in the cell. If the fuel cell does ignite internally, the foam absorbs the expansion and the energy of the explosion.
Note that all tanks should be grounded to avoid a static sparks. The movement of fuel in the tank and through the hose will generate a static build-up. See the CamaroTech ZZ3 third gen installation. The advantage of the submersible fuel pump is that it is at the beginning of the fuel delivery system thus allowing the entire system to be pressurized. Older systems often had a mechanical pump on the engine sucking fuel, drawing fuel to the engine under low pressure.
The advantage of a fuel system under pressure is that it reduces the chance for vapor lock, a condition where a fuel vapor bubble forms in the fuel line, blocking delivery of fuel and stalling the engine. Performance fuel pumps are often required when an engine is upgraded in horsepower requiring additional fuel above and beyond its stock predecessor. Under high RPM and peak horsepower conditions, the engine may require a performance fuel pump to deliver the additional quantity of fuel required.
Fuel pressure gauges are often added to performance vehicles to verify a minimum fuel delivery pressure to achieve full engine horsepower potential. This pump and harness combination will typically support flywheel horsepower using factory lines. This keeps the bucket full at all times and the pump fully immersed in fuel regardless of the tank level so that when the tank is low on gas and you are doing some hard cornering or acceleration the pump does not run dry and start aerating air bubbles the fuel.
This happens as the fuel sloshes from side to side in the tank leaving the center low on fuel. The F-LT1 cars have minimal to no baffling in them.
This can cause detonation and possible engine damage.
Camaro Fuel Systems:
The bucket also allows the car to operate with lower fuel levels in the tank due to its scavenging effect. The bucket can also effect motor cranking time as the priming time is reduced under certain conditions.
The return line from the fuel pressure regulator is diverted back into the bucket via a filter sock inside so that the unused fuel also helps keep the bucket full at all times. Keeping the pump constantly immersed in gas within the bucket can extend the pump's life by not allowing it to be exposed to open air.
The Racetronix pump assembly is modified so that it will seal in the buckets rubber check-valve so that its function is retained. This hose is important as when the fuel module is placed back in the tank it must pivot which can cause the rubber hose to kink. This fuel tube is much more resistant to the solvents in today's gas and it will not crack, split, swell and collapse like a rubber hose.
The standard Walbro kit comes with a short length of rated rubber hose. This harness has a pump connector at one end and GM pins at the other which fit directly inside the factory connector. The Racetronix harness replaces all these questionable components. The standard Walbro kit comes with a plastic coated in-line wiring adapter. This adapter must plug into the existing questionable factory in-tank wiring thereby adding additional connections and length.
High performance fuel pumps need a good power source in order to perform to their full potential.
On average a Walbro high-performance fuel pump requires twice as much power as a factory fuel pump. Because of this, as large a pump as the stock lines can support is fine, even with a stock engine! Boosted applications that see higher fuel pressures can still make hp with this pump, but not when over 90 psi because the fuel heats up and can cause problems.
Also, a fuel pump can't pump when it doesn't get enough voltage. We also wanted to upgrade the suspension, as well as reinforce the chassis and subframe from what it was equipped with from the factory.
Wanting to get started before we could even arrive, Greg had already pulled the small-block and the factory subframe. If you look closely, you can see the Flex-a-Lite radiator that will be cooling our late third-gen Camaro. The dual 1-inch all-aluminum radiator core is hand welded in the U.
Kudos to him, but there were two issues with that; there were clearance issues with the radiator that made us modify the airbox slightly, and the OEM intake system is fairly restrictive and not quite up to the task of flowing air into an LS-seires engine. It also made things easier to mount the lower A-arms to the K-member, for a more drop-in or lift in, rather installment. They are slotted for adjustment with engine placement in the engine compartment.

Our mounting hardware brackets were also sourced form Dirty Dingo, and we implemented their billet accessory brackets for the AntiVenom Camaro project. The design of the brackets were specced in to C5 Corvette dimensions and specifications, for optimum spacing and clearance.

After blowing the car apart, every nut and bolt on the suspension was replaced and the entire underside of the car was given a coat of POR to make sure it was spotless for years to come. After he was done with the underside of the Camaro, he turned his attention to the interior. All the interior panels and carpet were removed and the entire cabin was given a Dynomat treatment to give the car a much more solid feel than the typically rattle-ridden third-gen. After the sound insulation was in, the car was treated to brand new carpet.
The cloth seats were ditched in favor of some leather pieces pulled from a Camaro SS. However, the seat are just about the only update to the interior. The suspension was almost completely upgrade with tubular pieces. Spohn front A-arms were utilized and are attached to Koni double-adjustable shocks controlling Eibach Sportline springs up front. UMI lower control arms and relocation brackets also help provide traction and help keep the rear end from wrapping under heavy acceleration.
A matching set of Koni double adjustables and the same Eibach springs were used to damp and spring the rear end respectively. For the heart of the beast, Chris knew he had to have an LS. So he selected a 5. Motor mounts from Metal Tech Manufacturing bolt the LS to a stock third-gen cross member that was notched in order to provide clearance for the 5. I asked him if he was planning on selling the motor. However, since this was no junkyard build, Chris tore the engine down completely in preparation for the new build.
After sending the block to be lightly honed and inspected at a local engine shop, Chris rebuilt the engine himself from scratch. The stock internals were used but an LS9 cam was selected to tickle the valves in anticipation of boost. The stock 5.
For boost, Chris turned to a local company called TorqStorm for one of their billet supercharger setups. The kit he fit to the car was actually designed to be used with an Pontiac GTO, but when Chris saw the kit, he figured he could make it fit the 5. After turning the mounting bracket around, and modifying it slightly, the supercharger was in and fitting like a glove. Once the head unit had a permanent home, Chris fabricated the entire cold side piping himself.
This includes a custom 4-inch front mount intercooler that helps keep the inlet air temperatures in check. To keep the 5. The sender has been modified to facilitate a Walbro lph fuel pump and the car has been fitted with a Racetronix hot wire kit to keep the pump at full steam.
Backing the 5. Chris went with a torque converter from a Trailblazer SS to give the car a little more leeway on launch RPM while keeping the car street-friendly. While the car has never seen a dyno, Chris estimates the car was making in the neighborhood of rear-wheel horsepower. Not too shabby for a car that originally hit the road making an anemic horsepower at the flywheel!
Chris tells us it was enough to light up the tires making the shift. Chris also ditched the pathetic stock front binders in favor of a set of four-piston calipers donated by a Cadillac CTS-V.
